Tacoma pet shelter receives grant for HVAC

PetSmart Charities recently gave a grant to the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County.

The grant is to support the daily operations of the organization to continue in its efforts to provide care and shelter for homeless pets in the community.

Awards such as this one often use poster printing to inform the community of their purpose and benefit to the organization.

At a value of $53,000, the grant is specifically targeted for maintaining the well-being and health of its homeless cats as the funds will go towards the purchase and installation of a new high-capacity ventilation system that will provide complete fresh air to where cats are kept in the shelter.

Chief Executive Officer of the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County, Stuart Earley, said these new improvements in the Cattery will better remove impurities in the air. These impurities make the shelter uncomfortable for both the human volunteers and the cats. The cats coming into the shelter are already susceptible and stressed due to contaminants, including ammonia, microbes, odor, and dander.

Regional relationship manager at PetSmart Charities, Jenny Aho, added that the society does important work and this update will enable it to improve the health of their cats which, in the long run, help the cats to find permanent homes, thereby shortening their stay.
