The Tideflats Steering Committee recently unanimously adopted the Tideflats Subarea Plan for the city of Tacoma. This is a milestone decision that is the end of seven years of collaboration and planning along the city of Fife, the city of Tacoma, the Port of Tacoma, and the Puyallup Tribe of Indians.
News of such plans and their adoption is often made known throughout a community and a region with flyer printing.
Features of the Tideflats Subarea Plan include innovations in transportation and infrastructure; engagements and collaboration with stakeholders; the preservation of core industrial uses and encouraging industries to facilitate innovation in clean energy; honoring the values of the indigenous people; and coordinated investments and actions to improve water quality, restore ecosystems, and protect biodiversity alongside industrial development.
Victoria Woodards, mayor of Tacoma, said this was an historic achievement towards a prosperous and sustainable future for the city. She added that the adoption of this plan by the Tideflats Steering Committee, which is composed of five governments, demonstrates how communities can work together to create a shared vision.
She said during the past seven years, these groups have worked together to create a plan that addresses the needs of the community, harmonizes environmental stewardship with industrial growth, and ensures the long-term resilience of the region. Woodards also expressed her appreciation to the stakeholders and the business community who contributed their expertise, time and passion to shape the plan which will create a greener and brighter future for everyone.
