Sustainability expo to be held in Tacoma

The city of Tacoma will be hosting the 17th Annual South Sound Sustainability Expo.

It will be held at the Tacoma campus of the University of Washington along the Prairie Line Trail. This event is free, family-friendly, and open to the public and aims to connect businesses, residents, and organizations dedicated to building a more sustainable part of the state.

Featured at the expo will be family-friendly activities and hands-on crafts for kids, a pop-up forest from the Urban Forestry team of the city, a sustainability-themed kids scavenger hunt, and over 70 vendors focused on sustainability. There will also be a plant swap. which is free and at which people can bring cuttings, plants, starters, clean pots, and seeds for exchange.

There will also be a special art installation by Teruko Nimura, who is the Artist in Residence of the city. The piece created by Nimura is called Upstream Together and is inspired by the Japanese tradition of Koinobori. These are windsocks in the shape of a carp and are flown to celebrate a festival which is now known as Children's Day. Repurposed items are used in the artwork to highlight the themes of sustainable reuse and community.

Poster printing can be used around a city to promote such special and unique events.

This expo will be from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday April 26.
