This AMOCAT Arts Award winners for this year have been announced by the Tacoma Arts Center.
The Tacoma Public Library has been recognized with the Arts Patron Award for its dedication to creating a welcoming place for community connections, creativity, and discovery. The library has eight branches across the city and hosts programming throughout the year to encourage dialogue and exploration.
Remakery and Mi Centro were each recognized with the Community Outreach by an Organization Award for their work to advance access and equity through programs based on the arts. Remakery is a non-profit organization for creative reuse.
Mi Centro is also a non-profit organization that provides support for indigenous and Latino families through advocacy, outreach, education, and arts programming. Since its start over 20 years ago, it has engaged over 100 creative people and artists through events and programming.
Saiyare Refaei and Irina Rasputnis were each recognized with the Community Outreach by an Individual award. Refaei is a Chinese Iranian artist who uses art as a bridge for education, community building, and healing. Rasputnis is an arts organizer who uses art and music as vehicles for community building.
Sure to be of interest to art and graphic design lovers throughout the area, the AMOCAT Arts Awards will be presented on Tuesday, September 30 at 5:00 pm at the Tacoma City Council meeting held at the Tacoma Municipal Building, 747 Market Street.
