The bridges, underpasses, and streets that connect the neighborhoods of the city across Interstate 5 will be studied. Opportunities to improve connections, access, safety, and the experience of travelling through these areas will be identified.
During the first phase of engagement by the community, an online survey will be made available to visitors, business owners, students, workers, and residents. In the survey, participants will be asked to share where they travel when crossing the interstate, which crossings they use most often, any concerns they have about safety and accessibility, and ideas for improvements for the future.
Anders Ibsen, mayor of Tacoma, said:
“We need to hear from you first though. . . This will inform future projects and funding.”
Feedback gathered from residents will help planners identify locations where crossings may be challenging, feel unsafe, or lack strong connections, while also highlighting opportunities to improve access for pedestrians and other travelers.
City officials plan to provide additional opportunities for community participation, including public events, outreach programs in schools, discussions with key stakeholders, and other forums for residents to share their perspectives and suggestions.
The community can be informed of such surveys and kept abreast of future engagement opportunities through various printing services.
The survey can be completed online and will remain open through Friday, November 6.
