Patti Jackson has been confirmed by the Tacoma City Council as the chief of police for the city.
Such new appointments often call for business card printing services to be employed.
She has over 35 years of experience in enforcement, much of which has been with the Sheriff's Office of Pierce County. She also served as the corrections commander for the Basic Law Enforcement Academy at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission and has been the interim chief since March 2025.
Anders Ibsen, mayor of Tacoma, said that Jackson has contributed to the department by helping to change its culture and focusing on modernizing and fully staffing the department. Ibsen added that he and the community have full confidence in her ability to lead the department.
Jackson expressed her honor in accepting this appointment and said she will continue to lead alongside the leadership of the city, its dedicated employees, and partners in the community, focusing on service, trust, and safety.
Throughout her career, Jackson has focused on building stronger trust between law enforcement and the community. She has gained extensive experience preparing budgets, negotiating union contracts, and mentoring colleagues to prepare them for leadership roles. She has also consistently demonstrated a commitment to holding lawbreakers accountable while showing genuine empathy and understanding toward individuals facing homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges.
