Members of the community are invited by the Planning and Development Services Department of the city of Tacoma to learn about and provide feedback on the codes that shape the feel, look, and functions of the city in the upcoming years.
An accessible and family-friendly information session is being hosted by the city at STAR Center on S. 66th Street in Tacoma next month. The goal of this session is to foster broader collaboration, transparency, and participation by members of the community.
Its focus will be on proposed land use and zoning codes that are under consideration. These specifically include parking requirements for daily commuters; how the city protects its natural landscape to improve local air and water quality; safeguard vulnerable ecosystems; and support a healthy urban tree canopy; and rules concerning daycare facilities, special housing needs, and McKinley pre-annexations.
The event will have refreshments and translation services in Vietnamese, Ukrainian, Russian, and Spanish. The Treetops play area for children at STAR Center will be open at no cost for families. More information about such sessions and their ramifications for a community can be made known with poster printing.
Those who cannot attend the event in person can take an online survey. There will be more opportunities in the future for members to provide input to the Tacoma Planning Commission and Tacoma City Council.
This session will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday May 9.
