Tacoma bridges event to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration will take place in Tacoma later this month.

The theme of this year’s celebration is Building Bridges. The goal is to highlight the importance of fostering collaboration and unity in the community. The program will have stories that focus on how organizations and individuals from diverse backgrounds work together to drive positive change and create meaningful connections. The aim of the event is to inspire people to build a more harmonious and inclusive city by exploring how bridges can unite people.

The event will present Shawn Durnen with the Lifetime Service Award and Brian Gatewood with the Emerging Leader Award. There will also be a community outreach fair and a dynamic program. The fair will offer organizations the opportunity to share valuable resources with attendees and showcase their mission.

Such annual events often rely on poster printing to help promote themselves throughout a city.

The Events and Recognitions Committee (CERC) of Tacoma oversees the production and planning of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration as well as the selection of honorees for the annual awards. Jessica Johnston, chair of CERC, expressed her excitement about honoring the community and celebrating its artistic talents, rich diversity, and unwavering strength.

The celebration will be at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center on Commerce Street on Monday January 20 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
