Five students in the Imaging Science program at Tacoma Community College (TCC) have been awarded $50,000 in scholarships by the TRA Medical Imaging Foundation.
These students began their studies last fall, and are in the first year of the Radiologic Technologist program. News of such scholarships and their impact in the long term on the community are often made known with poster printing.
Last year, the graduation of 11 students from the Imaging Science programs of TCC was celebrated by the Foundation. This included students from both Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Radiological Technology. Many of the scholars from the program are actively involved in the TRA Medical Imaging Foundation Alumni Association.
The TRA Medical Imaging Foundation is a non-profit organization and was established in 2020 to be a partner in the community to promote better health and well-being now and for future generations. Philanthropic donors and a giving community enable the organization to thrive, and in its first year, it awarded scholarships to four students.
As the Foundation grows, its goal is to expand more opportunities and education in mammography, to address the shortage in the workforce, create jobs, and bring change to the quality of healthcare services in the community.
The spring cohort will be able to apply for scholarships beginning Friday, April 26. The criteria for receiving scholarships are based on career aspirations and financial need.
