New online portal now available in Tacoma

The Tacoma Open Data portal has officially been launched by the city of Tacoma.

This portal has been updated and is designed to facilitate access to data from the city by its residents without any legal restrictions on its use or reuse. Tacoma Open Data provides access to 50 sets of data with more sets of data to be added in the coming months. Data can be viewed in a map format or on a data dashboard. Residents will also be able to download data in several formats including KML, CSV, File Geodatabase, and GeoJSON.

Flyer printing can be used so residents become aware of such platforms and the value of their data.

Mayor Victoria Woodards said that the launch of Tacoma Open Data is a significant step in the commitment of the city to accountability and transparency. Woodards added that this improved access to the data of the city will enable people to engage more effectively with the city and inform the work of the city.

Deputy Mayor Kristina Walker said that this is a very exciting tool for the city of Tacoma and that a great deal of work has been done to make it possible. She added that such open data is important for a more responsive and collaborative government model, and she encourages residents to look at the datasets and provide their feedback to the city.
