Sound Transit has a goal of extending light rail service in Tacoma, and if things go as planned, it could be completed in 2018.
The initial cost for the proposed 2.4-mile extension has been estimated to be $175m, and the agency is hoping to secure funding for the project.
The route for the prosed line extension was recently chosen by Sound Transit. It is set to run from the existing stop at Pantages Theater in the downtown district, through the Stadium District and then up to the neighborhood of Hilltop. The line would include six new stations. A newsletter printing enterprise can produce publications that can be distributed to the public and other stakeholders to keep them up to date with the latest developments in the improvements to the city’s light rail system.
According to Kimberly Reason, who acted as a spokesperson for the transit organization, the total timeframe for the project could be between three to five years, and would include testing of the system to make sure it is safe and functions properly.
It was further pointed out that there has been a steady increase in usership of the existing light rail infrastructure. This past September saw 3,263 people use the train, and this is expected to increase to as many as 10,200 by 2035 if the system continues to grow to include new areas.
