Transportation commission in Tacoma advertises two vacancies

Applicants are being sought by the Tacoma City Council for a pair of positions on the Transportation Commission. One is an at-large position and the other is for Council District No. 4.

Those who apply need to be residents of the city, so local business card printing companies may be consulted by hopefuls over the next few days.

The Transportation Commission advises the City Council on matters related to transportation, including planning in both the short term and the long term; planning initiatives related to mass transit, pedestrians, and bicycles; capital improvement and parking plans; and compliance with transportation regulations both locally and federally. The Transportation Commission will also be involved in updating the Master Plan for Transportation and guiding implementation of the Vision Zero Action Plan.

There are 11 members on the Transportation Commission. The City Council appoints nine members with each of the five council districts in the city represented, and two non-voting representatives also being appointed by the City Manager. Members of the Commission should have an interest in the sectors of professional engineering, planning and urban growth, and the general community, among others.

Meetings of the Commission are held each month on the third Wednesday at the Tacoma Municipal Building at 5:30 pm. Applications for the open positions need to be submitted by 5:30 pm on Thursday, June 29 to the office of the City Clerk.
