Tacoma to see farmers markets opening soon
Farmers markets will be opening in May and June in the Tacoma area.
Executive Director of Tacoma Farmers Market, Anika Moran, said that the markets this season will be geared towards enabling people to pick up their groceries in a safe manner as opposed to being gathering places for the community. Vendor tents will be spaced 10 feet apart to meet health and safety requirements. Pre-bagging will also be encouraged as well as accepting pre-payments online to avoid using cash. Guidelines such as these can be made known to customer coming to the markets through flyer printing services.
Recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be able to use their benefits this year at these markets. SNAP transactions at the Tacoma Farmers Market last year came from people living in over 70 different ZOP codes.
The non-profit, Tacoma Farmers Market, runs four markets. The Broadway Street Market will be open on Thursdays running from May to October from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Point Ruston market will open on Thursday June 4 and run weekly from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Eastside Market will open on Tuesday June 2 and run weekly from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. while the Rose Garden Market at Tacoma General Hospital will open in June and run from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
