What's Happening in Tacoma, WA…

Tacoma to keep New Year's Eve family focused

First Night Tacoma is returning to the city this New Year's Eve. It is an arts-centered, alcohol-free family friendly event. This year's theme is ‘Year of the Ram’.

The evening will start off with a parade featuring giant puppets, costumes, masks, and bands, and everyone is free to join in the parade. It will be followed by all kinds of entertainment taking place on 20 different stages, which will include storytelling, comedy, music, and theater. Some of the performers taking part include the Seattle Rock Orchestra, Pearl Django, the Bucharest Drinking Team, The Banner Days, and Vamola.

Pyrosutra and L. Lisa Lawrence will provide fire eating displays, and belly dancers will entertain the masses too. There will be a Guinness World Record attempt happening between 11:30 pm and midnight; in past years, this has included the largest number of people bunny hopping at the same time.

Everyone who attends must purchase a button to be admitted to all of the events. These may have been designed and printed with the help of Tacoma printing companies.

First Night Tacoma will take place in the downtown theater district on December 31 beginning at 6:00 pm. Buttons are $10 in advance or $14 on the day of the event, and children aged 10 and under will be admitted for free.
