Tacoma opens nominations for leadership and service awards

Nominations for the Emerging Leader Award for individuals and the Lifetime Service Award for groups and individuals are now being accepted by the city of the Events and Recognitions Committee of the city of Tacoma.

Those who are honored for these awards are organizations, groups, or individuals that have significantly contributed to serving the community through commitment to education, sharing of their skills, or human rights efforts and those that embody the legacy of the actions and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King that represent people of all color in the pursuit of sustainable peace, hope, and healing.

Informing the community of the criteria for such nominations and how to submit them is often carried out with poster printing.

Mayor Victoria Woodards said that each year the city honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King by recognizing the invaluable contributions of these leaders of the community in their efforts to transform the city. She added that their work is a continual guide and inspiration that creates a stronger city.

The deadline for the nominations is Monday October 25 and these nominations can be online on the city’s website. These awards will be presented at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration to be held for the 36th year in January 2025 at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center on Commerce Street.
