Experienced birdwatchers and those who are new to the hobby are invited to spend some time in Tacoma with others who enjoy this popular pastime.
The park rangers at Port Defiance Park will be leading a guided walk where they will point out different species of birds and share tips on how to make the most from observing them. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring along their binoculars, and anyone who does not have their own will be able to borrow a pair from Tacoma Audubon.
Those who plan on coming out are reminded to dress for the weather and to bring along their refillable mug, as both hot chocolate and coffee will be served free of charge. According to the event’s organizers, the goal of the day is for it to be fun for both experienced birders and novices alike, and there will be time for the group to socialize and talk about their hobby before and after the walk. Booklet printing can be utilized to create simple field guides to the different birds that people may encounter during an event like this.
‘Coffee with the Birds’ will be held on February 11 from 9:00 am until 10:30 am at Fort Defiance Park. Anyone who would like to register to take part, or find out more information, can do so by visiting the Metro Parks Tacoma website.
