Tacoma asks for public input on street redevelopment project

The community and the city of Tacoma are partnering to create “Picture Pac Ave.” This is a plan and vision for the development and growth of Pacific Avenue from South 96th Street to Interstate 5.

“Picture Pac Ave” will guide developments for the future, including setting priorities for investments in public amenities and infrastructure, and supporting public transportation. It will also identify specific steps to be taken, such as changes to policy and code.

The city is looking for feedback from residents of the city on the project, focusing on such topics as economic development, housing, sustainability and public health, zoning, and facilities and public services. Consequently, the city will be holding several events and be present at various pop-up locations along Pacific Avenue during the summer. These will include walking tours and the Eastside Farmers Market. More details about such events and activities can be made available to residents with poster printing.

Earlier this month, the city held a Community Information Session to share further information about the project and answer any questions from the community. A period for public comment as part of a Determination of Significance is also now in progress, having begun last Thursday. It continues through Thursday, August 31. An online survey and open house will also be available on the city’s website until that date.
