The state has approved a measure that will help to improve mental healthcare in Tacoma and he surrounding area.
A plan, which was proposed by an alliance of CHI Franciscan Health System and MultiCare Health System, has received the approval of the Department of Health. Its proposal has also received the support of a variety of stakeholders in Pierce County, including law enforcement personnel, medical professionals, and both business and civic leaders.
The proposal calls for construction to begin sometime this year. The estimated cost for the project has been set at $41m, and it will be located at South 19th Street and Union Avenue at the Allenmore campus. The new building will have either three or four stories, and provide both crisis and longer term care. The designers of projects such as this can use a printing company to produce Copies of the artists’ conceptual drawings of how the finished structures will look like. These can be distributed to both the public and other stakeholders.
Funding for the project will come from a combination of government aid and gifts.
The CEO of MultiCare, Bill Robertson, remarked that his company is excited at the prospect of being able to help improve mental healthcare in the area by increasing the number of both beds and programs available to those who need them.
