Hotel in Tacoma set for conversion
A property on Tacoma Mall Boulevard currently operating as Oasis Inn Tacoma has filed a permit with the city for a conversion to residential apartments.
SM Heritage LLC purchased the property for $10.5m in February 2020. It covers just under three acres and is complete with 128 units and a pool. Visible from Interstate 5 going south, it was built in 1969 and last updated in 1992. Such sites might benefit from the services of local print shops, which can help to spread the word throughout a neighborhood about potential developments with flyers and other printed materials.
Media representative for the city of Tacoma, Maria Lee, said the request for the pre-development is currently being reviewed. Lee added that a feasibility study is currently underway, and the developer is waiting for more information to better understand any conditions or restrictions there might be on the property before determining what the next steps will be.
There have been several conversions of hotels to apartments across Interstate 5 on South Hosmer Street, south of the current site. The Sage Investment Group of Kirkland/Richland has been purchasing and redeveloping multiple sites along South Hosmer Street, the most recent of which was HomeTowne Studios Tacoma.
The proposed cost to redevelop Oasis Inn Tacoma is $8m, and a a tentative date of March 2025 has been set to begin construction.
