Part One of the Husky Terminal Expansion Project of the Port of Tacoma has received new federal funding in the amount of $54 million.
This project will reconfigure the terminal for the installation of 40 reefer tracks and related power supplies, the relocation of structures at the terminal, and better truck circulation. Operations will be revolutionized with the Husky Terminal Expansion Part One Project. The focus will be on densification to increase cargo capacity and make container handling more efficient.
Advancements in storage solutions will be introduced to speed up the processing of cargo with robust strategies to curb emissions via reduced berth times of vessels and electrification of the terminal.
In addition, the capacities for refrigerated containers will be expanded. These enhancements are designed to elevate the global competitiveness of the port, create jobs, and uplift the communities in the area.
United State Representative Derek Kilmer said this is a testament to how the city is working to grow the economy and build a sustainable future. Kilmer added that this will enable the Port of Tacoma to create jobs without burdening local taxpayers and to have a competitive advantage in the 21st century to become the forefront of shipping and trade in the state.
