Arts to be celebrated in Tacoma this month

Tacoma Arts Month is being celebrated in October.

The month includes programs for people of all ages, and features film screenings, lectures, visual art exhibits, cultural events, workshops, and hands-on experiences. Poster printing is often used to promote such special events throughout the community.

Benjamin Maestas III, chair of the Tacoma Arts Commission, said that artists from Tacoma add vitality to the city, meaning it is the time for everyone to get out and enjoy all the ingenuity and creativity. Maestas added that people should try to participate in as many workshops, exhibits, and events as possible to help celebrate all that the city has to offer.

One of the signature events of Tacoma Arts Month is the Tacoma Studio Tour. Attendees can go inside the working studios of 52 local artists to ask questions, learn about the artistic process, and purchase their creations. There will be hands-on activities or demonstrations at each studio.

It is encouraged that attendees pick up a Tacoma Studio Tour Passport and have it stamped at each studio they visit. The passport, with at least seven Stamps, will be eligible for a chance to win one of several prize packages.

The Tacoma Studio Tour is self-guided and will take place from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16.
