Multitalented performers coming to San Diego

Two talented performers from different sides of the Atlantic will perform in San Diego soon.

London-based Hope Tala is a singer/songwriter who has two great loves, literature, and music. She has managed to combine them to write songs with mournful melodies filled with references to classic literature. She cites Shakespeare, D’Angelo, and rapper/actress Lauryn Hill as her inspirations. This odd combination gives her work a lyrical dimension and a sound that incorporates aspects of rap, neo-soul, and lyric poetry.

Tala is sharing the bill with Alici, a Brazilian model and artist now based in New York. Like Tala, she draws on her background to meld differing sounds into a coherent style. In this case, Alici mixes the energy of New York with the serenity of her native Brazil. She had a nomadic childhood, bouncing among the UK, Seattle, and Brazil, and this led her to reconsider what the genres trip hop and bossa nova sound like to an audience today.

Alici fuses Portuguese and English lyrics and delivers her songs with deep emotion, sharing her memories with her audiences. She cites Portishead, Sade, J. Dilla, and Gal Costa as influences leading her to reinvigorate Brazilian inspired jazz and R&B.

Alici and Hope Tala will be appearing at the Music Box in San Diego on April 16. When they organize concerts like this, promoters will often use poster printing to create advertising for the show.
