Blues guitarist to visit San Diego

A musician who has worked with great names in blues is on the way to San Diego.

Albert Cummings has played with artists such as Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, and B.B. King, and released his latest album, “Strong,” in 2024. He began playing when he was 12 years old, and formed “Swamp Yankee,” a trio, who released their album “The Long Way” in 1999.

Later, Cummings worked with Double Trouble, Stevie Ray Vaughn’s backing band. The original lineup included Vaughn, Tommy Shannon, and Chris Layton, with Reese Wynans coming aboard later. Layton and Shannon volunteered to play on Cummings’ debut effort, “From the Heart,” which dropped in 2003. They also produced the album, which Cummings recorded in Austin, Texas. He sang as the frontman for Double Trouble, the first time they recorded together since Vaughn’s passing.

Cummings’ relationship with Vaughn’s backup band members continued when Blind Pig Records signed him to a multi-album contract. Tommy Shannon played bass on 2004’s “True to Yourself.” However, Cummings had a new band with him on “Working Man,” his fourth album, which dropped in 2006. He continued a strong recording career and released “Strong,” his tenth album, in 2024.

A review of Cummings in concert says:

“Albert Cummings and his wonderful band was fantastic it was a great night of music . . .”
