Two bands whose styles have been called a return to the age of arena rock will appear soon in San Diego.
The Strike, now based in Los Angeles, released “Faint of Heart,” their debut album, in 2017. The album was a success and Nettwerk Music Group signed them in 2022. They released “The Lost Years,” their second album, which got national attention and started their touring career.
They layer their sound over a foundation of synthesizers and drums strongly influenced by the style of the 1980s, topping it with anthemic choruses and soaring vocals. The result sounds like an arena band updated to today.
On tour with The Strike are the Kids That Fly. They got their start in 2018 at the University of Connecticut, with Nick Smeriglio (vocals/guitar), Blake Henry (synth/lead guitar), and Braden Frandino (bass) as the founders, and Adam Machado joining as their touring drummer. They started as friends dreaming of a career in music and changed into a group with a real chance at success.
Commuting to and from New York City for recording sessions, their dedication paid off when Giant Music signed them. They now record throughout the country, but their first love has remained performing live. Audiences respond to their style, which is influenced by groups such as Weezer.
The bands will be at the Music Box next Friday, August 7. Organizers that book shows like this can create advertisements for them using poster printing.
