Alt-rock band hops into San Diego soon

An alternative rock outfit that first got together in the mid-1980s will appear soon in San Diego.

Toad the Wet Sprocket, who took their name from a Monty Python sketch, are originally from Santa Barbara, California, where they formed in 1986. The original lineup comprised Glen Phillips, Todd Nichols, Dean Dinning, and Randy Guss. Guss left in 2020 and was replaced by Josh Daublin, who was subsequently replaced by Carl Thompson.

They charted with singles like “Fall Down,” “Something’s Always Wrong,” “All I Want,” “Walk on the Ocean,” and “Good Intentions” in the 1990s. The band released two albums before they broke through with “Fear,” their third album, which they dropped in 1991. It was certified Platinum, as was their next album,1994’s “Dulcinea.” The singles “Walk on the Ocean” and “All I Want” from the album “Fear” both made it to the Top 20 on Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The band members went their separate ways in 1998 but have reunited from time to time to do short tours. Then in 2010, they reunited full-time and released their album “Starting Now” in 2021.

The band’s music has been used in film and television. Its song “Brother” can be found on the soundtrack of the film “So I Married an Axe Murderer,” and the television hit “Friends” used the song “Good Intentions.”

Toad the Wet Sprocket will be at the Balboa Theatre on July 17. Events like these can be publicized when organizers contact Print shops to have Posters made.
