Synthwave band headed to San Diego

A trio noted for their use of electronic music is on the way to America’s Finest City.

Dance with the Dead was formed in 2013 by Tony Kim and Justin Pointer, who were friends from childhood. They play electronic music that has been described as a mix of synthwave and metal, and “dark synthwave.” This genre is a type of electronic music based largely on the music heard on the soundtracks of horror, science fiction, and action films of the 1980s. In fact, the duo says their biggest influences are horror films, and mention directors and composers such as John Carpenter, Dario Argento, and Hans Zimmer.

At their live shows, the two often swap riffs with Justin on the synths and Tony playing electric guitar and touring widely in support of their albums. A review says:

“Justin and Tony really friggin' killed it that night!! The Friday sky was lit up with electricity, enough Sparks to RAISE THE DEAD!!!”

Also on the bill is Korine, an electronic pop band based in Philadelphia. They say that like Dance with the Dead, much of their music is inspired by the 1980s. The band comprises Trey Frye and Morgy Ramone who met as co-workers and discovered their shared love of this type of music. The pair mixes punk with early emo and new wave nostalgia.

The show is on December 8 at Brick by Brick, where organizers may want to use poster printing to create advertising.
