The Aquabats got their start in 1994, in Huntington Beach, as a ska band. They were founded by Christian Richards Jacobs, aka The MC Bat Commander, and Chad Albert Larson, known as Crash McLarson. The two have remained with the group throughout its history. Other members today are James Briggs aka Jimmy the Robot; Ricky Falomir as Ricky Fitness; and Ian Fowles as Eaglebones Falconhawk. When they perform live or head to the recording studio, other musicians join them.
The group appears in superhero costumes, and that, plus their aliases, should tell audiences they are not about to see a typical rock concert. Instead, they may be treated to a battle between the “superhero” band members—who are known for being completely inept at these fights—and villains and monsters who are usually in costume. The result is mayhem that audiences love. A review of the band live says:
“It’s not just a show, it becomes a shared memory in the making. and there’s a reason why, they’re a great American band that is a lot of fun to watch.”
The Aquabats will be at the Observatory in North Park, a San Diego neighborhood, on October 23. Mariachi El Bronx and Mrs. Magician are also appearing that night. Using poster printing, organizers of events like this can publicize them.
