Schools push back reopening plan

Schools in Henrico County towns such as Glen Allen were scheduled to open their doors to students in the lower classes at the start of January, but that plan has been pushed back until the end of the month.

Students from Pre-K to second grade were supposed to start learning in-person first, but an unexpected spike in new COVID-19 cases convinced officials to take the safe option and postpone the start of classes. The new date for letting students back is now January 25. Students in high school and middle school were not expected to start until February and that has not changed. Companies often use promotional pens as a part of their back-to-school offers.

Superintendent Amy Cashwell sent out an email to parents where she said:

“Evolving guidance from health experts plus our own experience and increased implementation of safety measures give us improved confidence that schools can be safe with the right risk-mitigation in place.”

Confidence that the community can beat the virus is growing with the news that more than 13,000 people in Henrico have received their vaccinations. They were administered at hospitals, events, and long-term care facilities managed by the Richmond and Henrico Health Districts. The vaccination procedure is expected to roll out in phases and this is phase 1a, where the first vaccinations available are given to healthcare workers and people living in care facilities. Phase 1b is expected to start in February.
