The Cultural Arts Center in Glen Allen will be opening up the new year with a refreshed version of its art galleries, including three new exhibitions.
The Gumenick Family Gallery will be hosting the “Opening Minds Through Art” (OMA) exhibit. OMA is an intergenerational art program featuring the participation of people with dementia, promoting autonomy and dignity through painting and other modes of expression. The resulting works of art will be on display to the public.
The Midway Gallery will feature “Biological Mysticism”, a display of sculpture by Rosalind Koons. The exhibit features the relationship between human bodies and imagined aliens, and is presented as a fictional scientific study. The work is also inspired by Koons’ own experience with chronic illness.
“Fragments of Beauty” will be on display at the Slantwell Gallery, featuring painting by Tanya Green. Green’s work focuses on crystal, glass, and natural reflective surfaces. Art exhibits like this often use signage and brochure printing to explain artists’ background and inspiration. There will be a joint grand opening for these three exhibits on the evening of Thursday, January 15, including a cash bar.
“Opening Minds Through Art” will run from January 15 to March 15, “Biological Mysticism” from tomorrow (January 10) to March 1, and “Fragments of Beauty” until January 31, all at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.
