Steel firm rolling out 100 new jobs in Canonsburg

A steel firm is ready to take advantage of recent tariffs on imported steels and is opening a new steel manufacturing plant in Canonsburg, creating up to 100 new jobs.

Ameri-Precision Metals has moved into a 250,000 square-foot facility and is set to roll out steel products that are used for saw blades and knives.

All the equipment is in place, and 20 people have already been hired. In March the firm announced it would start trial production in April or May. It is unclear if the coronavirus global pandemic has affected the new factory's timelines. The company predicts it may have up to 100 employees by the end of 2020.

This initial setup phase is a $22 million investment from Ameri-Precision. The cold-rolled and heat treated steel that will come out of the Canonsburg plant is typically imported from Asia, but recent tariffs that the U.S. is placing on steel imports makes home-grown steel more profitable.

Canonsburg residents may consider getting their resumes updated and printed at their local print shops. Printing services are an important component of opening factories or other manufacturing facilities such as this one. Letterheads and business cards are needed when a new location opens its doors.

The new Ameri-Precision Metals plant is located on Curry Avenue in Canonsburg. The building is owned by Pennsylvania Transformer Technology.
