Coal industry conference set for Canonsburg

An upcoming meeting will give participants a chance to discuss issues important to the coalbed methane industry.

The North American Coalbed Methane Forum (NACBMF) has organized the 2026 North American Coalbed Methane Spring Session, which will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh, located in Canonsburg.

The session will consider how to improve mine safety, and increase the production of coalbed methane. Most people associate methane with petroleum, but it also occurs naturally in coal deposits. Coal is the most abundant natural resource in the United States, and a 1997 article notes that experts estimate there are over 700 trillion cubic feet of coalbed methane in place, with about 100 TCF recoverable with then-current technology, which would be approximately a five-year supply.

Coalbed methane is a relatively new industry, and the conference gives participants a chance to share practical experience about the development and subsequent use of coalbed methane. Information on the environmental, legal, and other issues associated with producing coalbed methane will be discussed.

A Board of Directors consisting of representatives from the education, government, legal, gas service and marketing industries, gas and coal industries, and the coalbed methane industry governs the NACBMF. The Forum provides scholarships for students, and recognizes the contributions of those making advances in the coalbed methane industry.

The Hilton is located at 1000 Corporate Drive, and the one-day conference is April 22 from 8.30 am until 4.00 pm. Events like this give participants an opportunity to gather Business Cards from industry experts.
