Series set up to highlight great photographers
The Carnegie Museum of Art is presenting a four-part art history class titled ‘Decisive Moments in Photography’, held on Wednesday mornings during this month and next.
The series was created by Linda Benedict-Jones, the curator of photography. It features important events of 20th-Century photography. Some of the photographers who will be highlighted are Edward Weston, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Imogen Cunningham. The last class will focus on Duane Michaels.
There are two related events taking place at the museum during the series. On January 22 there will be a film screening of ‘Duane Michaels: The Man who Invented Himself’. ‘Image to Word: a Public Reading’ will follow on February 12, featuring short stories and poems that were composed during the six-session course ‘Storyteller: the Photographs of Duane Michaels’. Each of these events costs $10 for museum members and $15 for nonmembers, and they also feature a cash bar.
Photographers and photography fans from all over, including nearby McMurray, will likely want to take part in the class or attend one of the events. This may include those who work for local printing companies.
‘Decisive Moments in Photography’ will take place on Wednesdays from January 21 to February 11 from 10:15 am to 12:15 pm. Fees are $64 for members or $80 for nonmembers. Call 412-622-3131 for more information about this or about the related events.
