Run for fun in Canonsburg
People celebrating Independence Day in Canonsburg may do so by joining in a run.
The 40th Annual Whiskey Rebellion 5K Race offers two different event, a run or a walk, both covering 5K, or 3.1 miles. Runners will be placed into groups depending on how long they expect to take to finish the race. Group A will have the fastest runners, who may be asked to provide proof of their performance. Groups B, C, and D will comprise slower runners, while Group E will be competitive walkers, and Group F will be those who are walking for the fun of it.
Organizers believe that having people participate with others who run/walk at about the same pace will keep the race smooth and avoid bunching up or straggling throughout the course. The race begins in the Canon Mac Football Stadium, with the start line in front of the bleachers.
Registration is open now, and is $25 through midnight June 16, when it goes to $28 through July 2 at 7.00 pm. After that, the fee is $30.00.
The race is on the holiday, July 4, and all proceeds go to support the Canon-McMillan Cross Country Team. The gates open at 6.15 am, and the race starts at 7.30 am. Participants are asked to line up at 7.10 am on the track. When organizers plan events like this, they often work with banner printing to create signage to mark the course.
