Perfect October event in Canonsburg

One of the seminal classics of the horror genre is coming to Canonsburg, just in time for Halloween.

The Thespian Troupe #185 at Peters Township High School is putting on its fall production, and has chosen the perfect vehicle for the spooky season – “Frankenstein.”

This version of the classic story was written by Nick Dear, who has made several changes to Mary Shelley’s original, which she wrote in 1818. Her tale of a scientist who creates a creature from parts of cadavers and brings it to life only to have it run amok has been a staple of literature over the two centuries since its publicaTION, and the subject of numerous film and theater adaptations.

The best-known adaptation is probably the 1931 film starring Boris Karloff as the Creature. Dear’s retelling premiered in 2011 at the Royal National Theatre in London, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller making history by alternating the roles of the Creature and Victor Frankenstein.

Among the changes Dear has made are that the Creature, rather than Frankenstein, is the narrator.

The Thespian Troupe is part of the International Thespian Society, and its members pledge to uphold its ideals and share their love of performing.

The show is October 13, 14, and 15, and organizers of events like this can use poster printing to create striking ways to advertise them.
