Events in the park arranged in Canonsburg
This summer brings outdoor entertainment in Canonsburg.
Several events have already taken place, but there is more to come in August. Films on the schedule for the month are “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Soul.” Live bands are Antoinette Manganas with Dave Crisci and Joe Garuccio, and the Washington Jazz Orchestra.
The Indiana Jones film “Raiders of the Lost Ark” will show on August 12 at 8:30 pm. The now-classic film features Harrison Ford as unorthodox archaeologist Dr. Indiana Jones who battles Nazis, desert tribes, and back-stabbing competitors to find the Ark of the Covenant.
“Soul” is scheduled for 8:00 pm on August 26. The film is a computer-animated effort from Pixar Studios dealing with complex issues of self-determination and intention, all with a background of jazz music.
Antoinette Manganas with Dave Crisci and Joe Garuccio will appear August 21 at 6:30 pm. Manganas is a native of Canonsburg, where her father owned a local barber shop. A musician himself, he taught his daughter to sing, and now she is heard and appreciated all over the world.
The Washington Jazz Orchestra will perform August 28 at 6:30 pm. They are based in Washington, Pennsylvania, and appear throughout the region.
All performances will take place at the Canonsburg Town Park Amphitheater. If the weather turns nasty, films will be shown in the Main Pavilion. Organizers of this type of event can publicize it locally with flyers, created by using flyer printing.
