Canonsburg unwraps another Old Fashioned Christmas
Canonsburg will once again host a holiday event that will turn the city’s downtown into a winter wonderland.
An Old Fashioned Christmas is one of Pennsylvania’s most popular festive events, and attracts holiday revelers from far and wide. Past events have attracted as many as 3,000 people.
The event is a relatively new experience for the city. Local volunteers started it all in 2018, and it has quickly grown into a highly anticipated event for the entire family.
The weekend event features a Santa Claus parade, a tree lighting ceremony, food trucks, live music, and a craft market. Businesses along Pike Street decorate their storefronts with lights and candy canes. A recent addition to the festivities is a gingerbread house contest.
The Borough of Canonsburg and the Greater Canonsburg Chamber of Commerce organize the event. With the help of sponsors and volunteers everything is free of charge. Organizers are currently looking for businesses and individuals to sponsor the event and also for volunteers to help out in a variety of ways. Print shops can be an important part of events such as this one, with services like banner and flyer printing.
Canonsburg’s Old Fashioned Christmas is scheduled to take place Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5. The 2020 schedule is not available yet but will be posted soon on the event’s website.
