Canonsburg garden club plans fundraiser

A local garden club is planning an annual fundraiser.

The Giant Oaks Garden Club has put its Tinsel Luncheon back on schedule. With the success of previous years, attendees should make sure they get their tickets early, as places are limited.

Tinsel Luncheons are held at garden clubs throughout the country, and are the major annual fundraiser for most organizations. Garden clubs give people with a shared love of gardens an organized way to care for these plots.

This year, the theme of the luncheon is (wait for it) “There’s No Place Like Gnome for the Holidays.” No doubt the club is playing on the popularity of its garden gnomes.

Meetings like this can benefit when organizers work with flyer printing to create a schedule of events. This year’s raffle baskets have been carefully selected, and all are valued at $100 at a minimum, with many exceeding that value.

Among the special baskets are a travel voucher worth $300 on Southwest Airlines, a free consultation about shrub and tree care, along with a $200 coupon for services from Davey Tree, a Pittsburgh Steelers basket with valet passes and game tickets, and a free consultation about landscaping with Doug Oster, an expert from Pittsburgh.

The lunch will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe, located at 1000 Corporate Drive, Canonsburg, and tickets are $40 each. The admission includes a 50/50 drawing, door prizes, raffle baskets, and a full day to shop with attending vendors.
