What's Happening in Canonsburg, PA…

Canonsburg celebrates pop culture at Fan Fest

Comics, movies, graphic novels, and all things pop culture will be front and center in Canonsburg at the upcoming Frank Sarris Public Library (FSPL) Fan Fest.

The daylong event celebrates comic books, graphic novels, science fiction and anime with workshops, games and vendors.

There is no admission fee for the event, which is open to all ages. All that are needed are creativity, imagination, and a passion for comics.

The Pittsburgh Comic Salon is putting on a series of comic book workshops where attendees can create and draw their own comic book stories. Special guest Howard Bender will be in attendance to assist aspiring comic artists in the workshops. Bender is a former professional comic book illustrator, and has worked with some of the major names in the industry, such as Marvel and D.C.

Those wanting to reserve a spot in the workshops can do so for $3. Empty spaces will be filled on the day of the event on a first come, first served basis.

There will also be pop culture trivia, where contestants will be tested on their knowledge of Star Wars, Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. A Fan Art contest will select some of the best amateur submissions from local young artists.

More than a dozen artists and vendors will be set up at the event. Festivals like these are natural opportunities to use services offered by print shops.

The Frank Sarris Public Library Fan Fest takes place tomorrow, September 7, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Frank Sarris Public Library at 35 North Jefferson Avenue in Canonsburg.
