Canonsburg business develops project in West Virginia

Consol Energy Inc., a Canonsburg-based company is putting together a new coal mining operation in Itmann, West Virginia.

The low-vol metallurgical mine will, according to estimates, be finished in 2021 and early estimates, according to the external affairs manager of Consol Energy, Zach Smith, are that 100 to 150 workers will be employed.

Companies moving or opening additional facilities away from their established base of operations often find that item such as promotional pens will help introduce the company to its new community.

Mine construction is anticipated to commence late this year, or perhaps in early 2020. When construction will begin is dependent on the rate of project development and success in obtaining permits. A press release revealed that so far both efforts are progressing as anticipated.

To develop its new preparation plant and mine over the next two years, Console Energy expects total capital expenditures between $65m and $80m. This is expected to garner the company an anticipated yield of over 600,000 tons of high-quality, low-vol coking coal per year, with production running at full tilt with a projected mine life of over 25 years.

According to Consol Energy CEO Jimmy Brock, the Itmann Mine project is a fits in well with his company’s goal to be a high-margin, low-cost producer of high-quality products.

Consol Energy Inc. is a producer and exporter of crossover metallurgical coal and bituminous high-Btu thermal coal.
