In St. Paul next month, the Hmong Museum of Minnesota will present the Make and Take a Hmong Batik Workshop, which will teach attendees how to make a traditional Hmong textile craft.
The Hmong people are an indigenous group from East and Southeast Asia. In the United States, there is a large diasporic community, and after the Vietnam War, many Hmong refugees from Vietnam came to Minnesota and made their home in St. Paul. The Hmong Museum of Minnesota is dedicated to preserving the arts, history, materials, and culture of the Hmong people.
The Hmong Batik Workshop will be led by Ka Oskar Ly, a Hmong interdisciplinary artist. Hmong batik is a textile craft in which wax is carefully applied to textiles that are then submerged in indigo dye to create intricate motif patterns. Attendees will learn how to make their own batik design while also learning about the cultural nuances of the craft.
Crafting workshops like this often include printed instructional materials, such as Posters, that can help facilitate the learning process. Organizers can Print such materials poster printing stores.
The Hmong Batik workshop is slated for Saturday, July 13 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. It will be held in Room B22 of the museum, located at 1001 Johnson Parkway. Tickets are $40.
