St. Paul event to celebrate Chinese culture

The Twin Cities Chapter of the Association of Sino-American Neocultural Exchange (ASANE) will be holding its 5th annual Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration this October, aiming to celebrate connections between Chinese and American culture.

The event will open with a celebration of ancient Chinese poet Qu Yuan, with a shakuhachi flute performance, selected reading of his works, and an open mic period. The festival will feature Asian arts groups showcasing local song and dance traditions associated with fall and the end of summer. These include dragon and lion dances, traditional music, and tai chi demonstrations.

The Mid-Autumn Festival will also feature participatory activities like fan making, water calligraphy and lantern making. Young visitors can take part in games and win prizes, as well as take part in photo opportunities. There will also be flavored mooncakes traditional to Chinese festivals and other Asian food from vendors selected from across the Twin Cities area.

In addition to Chinese tradition, the Mid-Autumn Festival will also celebrate Dakota culture and other Asian food and traditions from countries like Korea and Thailand. Cultural events like this often use methods like banner printing and musical performers to help create an atmosphere that is truly transporting.

The 2025 ASANE Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration will take place at the China Friendship Garden in Phalen Regional Park in St. Paul on Saturday, October 4.
