St. Paul’s German American Institute will be celebrating the holidays its own way this December with the Christmas in Germany event.
The Institute’s “Haus” will be decorated throughout in traditional Central European ornamentation, complete with music. The ballroom will contain an exhibit of German model trains and other toys. There will also be holiday crafts and story times with holiday myths. Children can also meet Sankt Nikolaus, the German version of Santa Claus, and take photos.
The event will feature German delicacies like bratwurst, pretzel, soup and cake in an outdoor tent meant to simulate the environment of an outdoor food market. Adult visitors can sample hot mulled wine or beer. Seasonal goods will also be for sale within the Haus. Holiday events like this often use banner printing and other decoration to help welcome visitors and create a festive atmosphere while raising awareness of different cultural traditions.
Christmas in Germany will use staggered entry times with ticket purchases to avoid crowding, but visitors are welcome to stay as long as they want. The Club will also be hosting other holiday events during December like the Christmas Kneipe & Sing Along, highlighting traditions from throughout Central Europe.
The 2025 edition of Christmas in Germany will take place on the December 6 and 7 weekend at the German American Institute’s headquarters in St. Paul.
