Classic bike ride to travel St. Paul

The St. Paul Classic bicycle ride will be returning this September, offering a scenic showcase of the city.

The race has been a staple of St. Paul cycling for three decades, and often attracts thousands of bikers. There will be two different routes available: a 29-mile Grand Route, with the option to add a 3-mile lap around Lake Phalen, and the 12.8 mile Lollipop Loop, which also travels around Lake Phalen and Wheelan Parkway. The routes also include historic buildings, local parks, and a 14-mile stretch of the Mississippi River.

Both routes will begin and end at a pavilion area with live music and T-Shirts available for pickup. Bicycle rides and runs like this often turn to printing services and shops to help create custom clothing and other souvenirs. There will also be rest stops with refreshments and live performers along the path.

The ride will go along paved trails, bicycle lanes, and protected paths, avoiding having to close roads to car traffic. All kinds of bicycles are welcome, including e-bikes, adaptive bicycles, tandems, and children in bike trailers or tricycles. The ride is a noncompetitive event, with cyclists encouraged to allow each other to pass and take the distance at their own pace.

The 2025 St. Paul Classic ride will take place on the morning of September 7, with the route beginning and ending at Como Lakeside Pavilion.
