Phantom ballet premieres in Saint Paul

Twin Cities Ballet will be premiering their newest full-length work this Halloween season, with their adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera.

The ballet is based on the French novel by Gaston Leroux, about a mysterious masked figure who hides beneath the Paris Opera House, which has famously been adapted into two musicals and multiple films. The ballet version will aim to tell this story in a new way through dance, orchestral music, and cinematic on-stage visuals. Advertising for the show says that:

“Featuring an original story adaptation, musical compilation, and artistic vision of Denise Vogt, the production blends the Vogts’ dynamic choreography with immersive multimedia and projection design by Peter Morrow to transport audiences into the Phantom’s shadowy world where beauty, passion, and obsession collide.”

The adaptation was created by Denise and Rick Vogt, the Artistic Directors of Twin City Ballet. The pair previously adapted Romeo & Juliet and the music of Pink Floyd into “rock ballets.” The performance will star the Twin City Ballet company, whose primary members include Anna Moeller, Joanna Heup, and Lisandro Neris.

The ballet will feature a one-weekend premiere with three shows, including two matinees and one evening performance. Dance and theatre shows like this often make use of brochure printing to create programs that recognize the stars and creative teams.

The Twin Cities Ballet production of Phantom of the Opera will be on stage on October 31 and November 1 at the Fitzgerald Theater in Saint Paul.
