St. Paul festival to celebrate old time music

The Twin Town Old Time Music Festival will be taking place in St. Paul this April, aiming to highlight music related to the Midwest’s cultural heritage.

The festival will consist of performances, workshops, and “jam sessions” focused on traditional music. Workshop titles include Scandinavian Tunes, Ballad Singing, and Cajun Music Workshop and Beginner Jam. There will also be a presentation on the Métis Red River Jig style, followed by a percussive dance workshop.

The day of workshops will be followed by a musical jam session, with attendees invited to dance or join in the fun on-stage.

The line-up of performers comes from across the Midwest and includes husband and wife duo Sweet Milk & Peaches, fiddle expert Lynn “Chirps” Smith, and bluegrass quartet Steam Machine. In addition to performing, many guests will take part in workshops to help pass on their knowledge in the musical tradition.

Grassroots music events like this often use methods such as poster printing and radio advertising to help reach local enthusiasts. The festival will conclude with a special edition of the Monday Night Square Dance at Minneapolis’s Eagles Club #34.

The 2025 Twin Town Old Time Music Festival will occur from April 4 to 7 at locations across the Twin Cities, including Charles Thompson Memorial Hall and Celtic Junction in St. Paul.
