The second annual San Bernardino County Lifesaver Awards took place on Friday, December 14 at the County Government Center, and 59 individuals were honored.
The heroes receiving awards included volunteers, deputies, and others within the surrounding community. Honorees were presented the awards by Sheriff Rod Hoops. Five of the deputies honored were presented with more than one award. Some of the sheriff’s deputies had performed helicopter rescues at night, and some had saved lives by conducting CPR on individuals until paramedics were able to arrive. Sheriff Rod Hoops stated:
"The panel went through hundreds of nominations for this event."
Awards ceremonies and other events within the community often employ local printing companies for banner printing and other printing services needed. Such ceremonies are often advertised with poster printing or flyer printing in order to raise awareness about the activity. Brochure printers might also be used for such ceremonies for programs or other pamphlets.
Among those awarded at the ceremony were deputies Berend Meelker, John Scalise, and Jon Anderson, who rescued a couple of Marines at Twenty-nine Palms. The marines had been injured in a lightning storm that occurred in September. Sgt. Rod McDonald and Charles King were also among the heroes honored. The two men saved the life of three-year old Jayden Nash, who is King’s grandson, when Jayden severely cut through veins and arteries in his hand when he fell into a window.
Over 150 individuals turned out for the annual Lifesaving Awards ceremony. Many members of local law enforcement and their families were present, as well as a number of other community members.
