San Bernardino’s California Theatre of the Performing Arts is hosting a new musical based on the DreamWorks animated film The Prince of Egypt.
Tracing the journey of Moses as he works to free his people under the oppressive rule of his Pharaoh brother Ramses, the play will include the Academy Award-winning “When You Believe” from the film. Ten new songs from composer Stephen Shwarts are also included in the play, alongside five others from the original movie.
The stage version of The Prince of Egypt, penned by Philip LaZebnik with choreography by Sean Cheesman, originally had its world premiere in California back in 2017. It has since toured around the globe, including in London’s West End.
Debuting in 1998, the PG-rated The Prince of Egypt animated film was co-written by LaZebnik and Nicholas Meyer, and directed by Brenda Chapman, Steve Hickner and Simon Wells. Val Kilmer voiced the role of Moses, while Ralph Fiennes played Ramses and Michelle Pfeiffer voiced Tzipporah.
