The San Bernardino Valley College is hosting a concert by the Josh Nelson Jazz Ensemble this September.
Nelson, a pianist and composer, made his debut as a solo recording artist with 2004’s “Anticipation.” He followed that up with 2007’s “Let it Go,” 2009’s “I Hear a Rhapsody” and 2011’s “Discoveries,” the latter of which featured a brass and wind ensemble scoring classic science fiction films.
In addition to having performed around the globe and contributing to movie soundtracks as a solo artist, he has also collaborated with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Greg Hutchinson, George Mraz, Natalie Cole, Gaby Moreno, Sinne Eeg and Sheila Jordan.
The concert in San Bernardino will include songs by Michel Petrucciani, Mulgrew Miller, Kenny Kirkland, Mike Wofford, and George Cables, among others.
The San Bernardino Valley College Auditorium, the venue where the concert is taking place, has historical and cultural significance in the community. At more than 80 years old, the 569-capacity building has hosted everyone from comedian Bob Hope to former First Lady Hillary Clinton during a U.S. Senate campaign in 1996.
