City gets to enjoy a classic rock opera for one day only

Early in the fall, San Bernardino rock opera fans will get the opportunity to once again enjoy a nostalgic evening of the legendary collaboration of Time Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s timeless Jesus Christ Superstar.

Once again, viewers can hear classic hits such as “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Superstar”. Only two performances will be presented, so those hoping to attend should make a move quickly.

The play started as a rock opera album and later, in 1971, it became a fully-fledged musical on Broadway where it won five Tony Awards. In 1973, it became an award winning motion picture starring Ted Neely, whose iconic performance has been a subject of a great deal of poster printing over the last few decades.

This upcoming production intersperses thunderous drums and guitar shredding with the more traditional symphonic instrumentation. Contemporary language and life are injected into the plot in subtle twists and turns, giving a different angle to the performance to the one viewers might be more familiar with.

This musical is scheduled for September 12, with performances at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm at the California Theatre of the Performing Arts, 562 W. Fourth St. San Bernardino. Further information about this and other upcoming performances at the venue can be found by visiting the theater’s website.
