The Children’s Fund in San Bernardino has begun its 30th annual toy drive for disadvantaged children, in which it expects to collect and distribute over 30,000 toys and gifts for children during the holidays.
The 30th Annual Celebration of Giving campaign will involve collecting gifts for children everywhere from newborn to 18 years old, although there is a special need for gifts for those in the 12 to 18 age group.
Children’s Fund president and CEO, Ciraco Cid Pinedo, said that often these gifts are the only ones children receive. The program coordinator Syrone Harvey said people think of only buying toys for little kids, but older children want gifts too.
Suggestion for gifts older children are makeup sets, curling irons, sports equipment, Backpacks, face brushes, wallets, calculators, watches, or earphones.
The Children Fund staff believes that children receiving gifts know that people care about them. Over 6,500 children in foster care in San Bernardino will receive a gift, and San Bernardino has Print shops that design Business Cards for organizations like this.
Teenagers in foster care will receive a $25 gift certificate for shopping. Cash donations are welcome to offset the $45,000 cost.
Major donors to the program are Arrowhead Credit Union, Spark of Love, First Five San Bernardino, San Manuel Band of Indians, and Southern California News Group.
The Children’s Fund will begin collecting toys and gifts on December 3 until December 14. They are located 1140 E. Cooley Avenue. They are open weekdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
